These shipwrecks ran aground during a winter storm. Three are accessible by foot on the beach. I recommend going during low tide to be able to see the wrecks better. It's a little over a half mile walk from the parking lot. Bring along a small fishing net & bucket for the kids to catch crabs, starfish, and small minnows.
**8/13/12 Update according to a local source: These ships did not run aground during the storm. They were destroyed during a storm and then the town of Riverhead purchased them and placed them here to create an artificial jetty.
