On November 26, 1933, two men were lynched by a mob who broke into the Santa Clara County Jail and dragged them to St James Park. The men, John Holmes and Thomas Harold Thurmond, were accused of the kidnapping and murder of a San Jose department store heir, Brooke Hart.
