Pacific Grove was founded as a Methodist Episcopal retreat in the 1870's. The godly atmosphere (PG remained a dry town until 1973) soon attracted religious believers of other Christian denominations. The Seventh Day Adventists have had a presence on the peninsula for more than a century, but this building is not that old. The classic architecture topped with a slightly-exotic octagon steeple sets the tone for a harmonious relationship between community and church.
