Monroe House formerly a hotel and saloon, was built in 1884. The brick building is in a Victorian Italianate style. The three-story commercial features trim cast-iron lintels and metal cornices. The building is well maintained.

The building is a contributing building in the Missouri State Capitol Historic District.
