The Site of the First Jail (S.W. corner College and Church Sts.). In the log structure built here in 1796, Ethan Allen's brother, Levi, a Tory, was imprisoned for debt and died (1801). Later the site was occupied by Lyman King's Hotel, a noted hostelry, until 1823.

I am not at all sure of the progression here after the hotel. Something happened in 1837 and 1888 or spanned that period, probably relating to S. Huntington, which may have been a retailer. The "1912 McAulliffe 1928" is also confusing: this was McAuliffe's Office Supply into the Seventies, but what the dates signify is anybody's guess. The company went out of business in 1995.
What I can tell you for sure is that it is currently occupied by an upscale men's clothing store.
