USCGS&SS 342, NJ, is a US Coast and Geodetic Survey and State Survey survey disk located along Amboy Avenue in Edison, NJ. The disk is mounted flush with the surface of a brick sidewalk, in the southwest angle of the intersection of Amboy Avenue (County Route 501) and Cabot Avenue in the Clara Barton section of Edison. The disk is located about 24 feet west-northwest of the centerline of Cabot Avenue, about 22 feet south-southwest of the centerline of Amboy Avenue, 5.75 feet southeast of a dark green, metal lamppost (1890’s style), 2.17 feet south-southwest of a dark green, metal pole that supports a street sign, and across Amboy Avenue from residence 1044. The disk is stamped STATION NO. 342 ELEVATION 105.838 FEET. To reach from the US Highway 1 exit from Interstate Highway 287 (State Highway 440) in Edison, NJ, go north on US Highway 1 for about 0.7 miles to the exit for Amboy Avenue. Take the exit for Amboy Avenue east (towards Perth Amboy) and go east-southeast for about 0.27 MILES TO Cabot Avenue and the disk on the right. Recovery of this disk was first logged on the Geocaching datasheet for station METSTA, PID = KV5847.
