The original 1867 cathedral which burned in 1972 was a classic Gothic church. This very modern replacement was quite a visual shock and not without controversy, even today. It's mostly roof!
Thirty years later, the patina of the copper roof complements the light green and brown glazed brick of the low walls.
The symbolism of the modern bell tower is not lost. It stands just a few yards from where this same bell hung in the original steeple.
The exterior shots are at the back of the church. Due to its placement on the property, far more traffic passes the sides and back than the front, thus making those views much more recognizable.
