20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was the first science-fiction film produced by the Walt Disney Company and the only one produced by Walt Disney himself. At the 27th Academy Awards in 1955, the film won two Oscars. One was for Best Art Direction and the other for Best Special Effects. It also received a nomination in the Film Editing category.
The Academy Award for Special Effects can be seen on display during the Walt Disney: One Man's Dream tour at Disney's Hollywood Studios. This tour takes guests on a tour through Walt Disney's life and how Walt Disney World came to be. The first half of the tour contains many artifacts and displays from Disney's life. About halfway through this portion on the left side is a very small display case containing this Academy Award along with some other props from the movie.
Admission to the park is required, the price of which varies greatly depending on the type and length of ticket purchased.
