The David L. Rice Library is a $27.5 million five-story building that opened in 2006. In addition to providing space for library collections and traditional functions, the library meets today’s changing needs with technology and space for collaboration. The library has 30 group-study rooms accommodating two to 12 students. It also features a Starbucks coffee shop and commons area.
The first floor includes the circulation desk, reference desk and stacks, two teaching labs, and government documents. On the south side of the first floor is a periodicals reading room. On the second floor, the rotunda area features a two-story reading room. The library administration offices, technical services, and a seating area overlooking the first floor periodicals reading room also are on the second floor. The third floor houses University Archives and the fourth floor has two reading rooms, one which overlooks the Recreating and Fitness Center. Visitors are struck by the variety of spaces throughout the new library.
Besides the four levels of the library, the new building offers a lower level of 16 technology-enhanced classrooms in addition to a 125-seat auditorium.
