The First Presbyterian church was organized at Hastings and the corner stone of the church was laid on September 30, 1888. The structure was completed and dedicated January 31, 1889, with Aaron Benson and Dr. R. Dimon as the ruling elders. After many years with little or no increase in membership, the church disbanded. Meanwhile, the local Baptist community, which had been meeting in members homes, was growing in members and was considering building their own edifice. When the First Presbyterian Church became available, they made the decision to purchase the building. Since the early 1900's, this has been the location of the Central Baptist Church of Hastings, New York.
