"Holy Trinity Cathedral is the episcopal seat of the Bishop of San Francisco and the West. We are part of the Diocese of the West of the Orthodox Church in America. Established in 1857, it is the oldest Orthodox parish in the contiguous United States. The present temple was built in 1909 to replace an earlier church destroyed by the 1906 earthquake and fire. Down through the years the Cathedral has been the fortunate recipient of the generosity of many. For example, our bells were donated by Tsar Alexander III of Russia in 1888." (
