[FR] Trois salles du musée sont consacrées à l'époque gallo-romaine et plus particulièrement à Samarobriva (Amiens), l'une des plus importantes villes de Gaule Belgique. On peut y suivre l'histoire de Samarobriva depuis ses origines, sous l'empereur Auguste, jusqu'au IVe siècle où elle devient une ville de garnison, le plus célèbre soldat ayant résidé à Amiens étant saint Martin.
Au IIe siècle, la ville s'étend sur plus de 200 hectares et avoisine les 25 000 habitants. Les fouilles archéologiques, nombreuses, ont permis de reconnaître différents monuments : double forum, amphithéâtre, thermes… Elles ont livré des traces d'un commerce avec des contrées éloignées (amphores de Bétique, sigillées de Lezoux, terres cuites de l'Allier, plomb de Bretagne…) ainsi que de nombreux objets de la vie quotidienne : tablettes pour l'écriture, en bois, encriers, instruments de chirurgie et pour la toilette, parures, pièces de jeux… On notera la très importante collection de verreries antiques.
[EN] Three rooms of the museum are dedicated to the Gallo-roman era and more particularly to Samarobriva (Amiens). Here, one can follow the history of Samarobriva from its origins under the emperor Augustus, until the 4th century when it became a garrison city. The most famous soldier stationed at Amiens was Saint Martin.
In the 2nd century, the city spread out over more than 200 hectars with a population of 25,000. Numerous archeological digs have resulted in the discovery of different monuments : double forum, amphitheater, baths ... and have uncovered the traces of commerce with far away lands (amphoras from avec des contrées éloignées (amphores de Baetica, terra sigillata pottery from Lezoux, terracotta from Allier, lead from Brittany…) as well as numerous objects from daily life : wooden writing tablets, ink pots, surgical and grooming instruments, jewelry, game pieces… Especially noteworthy is the very large collection of glasswork.
