The Whitby Curling Club was established in 1877. It was situated on the corner of Mary and Byron Streets in downtown Whitby. Water for ice making came from an on-site well. Both iron and granite stones were in use with each player supplying his/her own set.
In 1891 the Club moved into a new ice rink at Green and Gilbert Streets. Around 1912 curling in Whitby took a hiatus until its rejuvenation in 1958 at its present location at 815 Brock Street North.
Today the Whitby Curling Club has over 400 members in several leagues. There is a strong junior league, ages 12 to 19, a "Little Rockers" program for ages 8 to 12, as well as men's, women's, mixed and senior's leagues. In addition several rental leagues and local schools also use the facilities on a regular basis.
