Where nature becomes culture

Eighteen acres of parkland, more than 1,000 animals belonging to 200 different species of mammals, birds and reptiles, placed in a botanical garden in the heart of Villa Borghese. Bioparco of Rome is one of the oldest zoos in Europe, founded in 1911. Bioparco is visited by over 600,000 people.

The Bioparco of Rome Foundation is a nonprofit organisation that now manages the old zoo and cooperate at international level for the conservation of species threatened with extinction. All animals in the park were born and raised in captivity and come from the collaboration with other zoological facilities or kidnappings carried out by the police in case of trade or illegal detention.
