The Publick House was built in 1771, originally known as the Elms Inn, is located across the road from the Sturbridge Common. The Publick House was built near the crossroads of two important early routes through the area, the Boston to New York and the Providence to Springfield highways and was a popular stopover along those routes. The Publick house has 17 rooms in its inn and has expanded in other buildings.
