Unlike its neighbor, this cannon is pretty straightforward in its presence.
Battery Park is so named because a gun emplacement here defended what was then the village of Burlington during the War of 1812. This is not likely the type of piece used back then, but its symbolism here is obvious.
What is not obvious is the meaning of engraving on the side: A "P" with "W.W." and what appears to be a decorative "2." beneath. Is someone is trying to tell us it was used during World War II? The style of the "2" appears almost whimsical; is it actually an old-style cursive "Q"?
