The Burlington Free Press began in 1827 as the Free Press Weekly, becoming an evening daily in 1848; a Sunday paper wouldn't be published until 1965. The evening edition was eventually canceled due to poor sales, in favor of a morning edition. The Free Press became part of the Gannett Company in 1971.
With a circulation over 48k daily/56k Sundays, it is the largest paper in Vermont.
The newspaper has over 250 full-time employees in its Burlington headquarters.
