This rather busy water crossing ferries passengers following U.S. Route 9 between Delaware & New Jersey.

For automobile traffic following US 9 and nearing the Delaware Bay, the highway comes to an abrupt end as it leads into one of the ferry terminals on either side of the Bay. From here, the only way to cross the state line is via one of the 5 passenger ferries operated by the Cape May - Lewes Ferry.
The ferry trip route covers 17 miles of water & takes about 1.5 hours. This is one of the more enjoyable border crossings, especially if you're not in a hurry to get to the other side! You will pass several lighthouses, one or more of the other ferry ships, and whatever shipping traffic happens to be passing by.
Note - the posted coordinates were taken as close to the border as this waymarker could guess by looking at the standard issue, no border, GPSr basemap. To get your bearings, you'll need only look at a few references - including the Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse, the Brandywine Shoal Lighthouse, and the Cape May Lighthouse. All are actual benchmarks (intersection stations) visible during the entire trip, although you may need binoculars from opposite ends to the bay (Brandywine Shoal is the toughest to see).
