The advantages of adopting from Animal Services:
The animals are checked by a veterinarian for obvious health and behavioral problems.
Volunteers work with the animals to keep them happy and socialized.
Not only are you giving a home to a healthy, loving animal, but the adoption fee is a great value that includes many extras.

The cat or dog
Spay / neuter surgery

How to adopt an animal from Animal Services:
View the animals currently for adoption in Adoptable Dogs or Adoptable Cats. You can also see Impounded Dogs or Impounded Cats for an expanded listing of the animals at the Animal Services Centre.
Visit the Animal Services Centre at 2201 Portland Street SE or call 3-1-1 to put your name on the waiting list for adoptable animals.
When your name comes up on the list, you'll be invited in for an initial visit with the animal.
You'll then be asked to return the next day with any family members who will be living with the new animal, to ensure that the animal is compatible with the family. If you are adopting a dog, you'll be asked to return with any dogs you already have to ensure that the resident dog and the new dog are well-matched.
If the animal requires spay / neuter surgery, he will be taken to the clinic where the procedure will be done.
You can then pick up your new pet from the clinic.
