1989 GPS SAN GORGONIO PEAK - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

Upon summiting San Gorgonio Peak, I found this marker placed by the San Bernardino County Surveyors. I could find no other markers. I found it a bit surprising that there were no USGS or CGS markers placed on the highest point in San Bernardino County and Southern California.

This is a relatively small marker, about 2" in diameter.
On the outside ring are theses words
1989 GPS SAN GORGONIO PEAK S.B. CO. SURV.
Inside of this is
HIGHEST POINT SO. CALIF.
and in the center
ELEV. 11501.6 FEET

San Gorgonio Peak is in the San Gorgonio Wilderness and permits are necessary to enter the wilderness. The hike can be done any of a number of ways. It may be done as a very strenous one day hike or as a multi-day backpack.
