Long Description:Founded in 1962 and still family owned, Goldsmith Seeds has an
outstanding record for producing prize-winning flowers. Their
research program is conducted in these fields in Gilroy (and in the
acres of greenhouses on the property). The flower fields look like
patchwork quilts because each test bed is relatively small, and
directly adjoins a completely separate test subject. With the long
growing season in California, there is something blooming in the
fields eight months a year. However, there's not much visible
between December and March.
The public is allowed to stroll around the grounds between 8AM
and 5PM every day, free of charge. (There are no retail sales here,
and no guided tours are given except by special arrangement.)
Goldsmith Seed put a viewing platform on top of the public restroom
just west of the parking lot, which provides a better vantage point
for the flower beds. Coordinates as listed are for the viewing
platform
