This caboose was placed here and painted as a Southern Pacific caboose because the nearby depot once served the Southern Pacific line that passed nearby. It is interesting to note that now the line is owned by the Union Pacific Railroad.

The caboose in Canby Oregon is on display at
The Canby Depot Museum.
This is a great caboose and if you visit the museum they will unlock the caboose and allow you to enter it and tour the inside.

According to a placard inside the caboose:
"This caboose was bought at auction for $2450.00 in 1988. It was moved to this siding for addition to the Canby Depot Museum."
Another placard gives the cabooses history:
"...as you may notice, the exterior of our caboose is painted in Southern Pacific colors, but it is actually a Union Pacific car. The Depot Museum is next to a train line that belonged to the Southern Pacific Transportation Company, so when the caboose was purchased, the colors were changed.
This caboose, UP25584, was built by the International Car Company of Kenton, Ohio. It was one of 100 cabooses of Class CA-8 (CA means Caboose and -8 means they were the 8th in a sequence of caboose designs). The CA-8's were numbered UP2500-UP25599. UP25584 was built in November, 1964 and retired April 4, 1988. Information provided by William Metzger"
