DESCRIBED BY US GOVERNMENT LAND OFFICE 1931 (CIA) STATION IS THE INITIAL POINT OF THE UTE PRINCIPAL MERIDIAN AND BASE LINE AND THE STANDARD CORNER OF SECTIONS 1, 6, 31 AND 36, TOWNSHIPS 1 N AND 1 S, RANGES 1 E AND 1 W, UTE PRINCIPAL MERIDIAN. TO REACH FROM THE POST OFFICE IN GRAND JUNCTION, GO E FOR 8 BLOCKS TO N. 12TH STREET. THEN GO STRAIGHT N FOR 1.6 MILES. THEN E 1.0 MILE. THEN N 1.0 MILE TO THE GRAND JUNCTION MUNICIPAL AIRPORT. FROM HALFWAY BETWEEN THE 18TH AND 19TH FENCE POSTS, SE OF THE SE CORNER OF THE HANGAR, PACE 53 YARDS EASTWARD DIRECTLY TOWARD THE S EDGE OF THE TOP OF A HIGH BUTTE, THE TOP OF WHICH SLOPES TO THE NORTH, TO THE STATION. SURFACE-STATION MARK AND REFERENCE MARKS ARE STANDARD DISKS SET IN CONCRETE.

2.0 FEET WEST OF IRON GATE POST IN CENTER OF GRAVEL ROAD AND ABOUT 2 INCHES BELOW SURFACE OF GRAVEL ROAD. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS 98.5 FEET NORTH OF AIRPORT BOUNDARY FENCE, 23.4 FEET WEST CENTERLINE GRAVEL ROAD AND FLUSH WITH SURFACE OF THE GROUND. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS 122.5 FEET WEST CENTERLINE GRAVEL ROAD, 175.8 FEET SOUTH OF AIRPORT BOUNDARY FENCE AND FLUSH WITH SURFACE OF GROUND.


What property is this mark defining?:
Certain portions of Mesa and Delta counties use the Ute Meridian as the main north-south survey line with an arbitrary baseline as the starting point. The original plan was to settle the Ute Indians in Western Colorado.
