A white granite slab flanked on one side by a bronze figure of a soldier (west side) and on the other side by a bronze figure of a sailor (east side).
The monument commemorates the 2,500 troops who fought on three fronts during the Spanish-American War of 1898. The County Board of Supervisors appropriated $15,000 for the monument. On May 8, 1931 the City Plan Commission approved the design.
