This bronze plaque is on a small rock plinth under a young spreading redwood tree. There are several old-growth redwoods in the park; eventually this one will reach their stature and be a fitting monument to the memory of the veterans it honors.
San Mateo is a city which takes pride in remembering its veterans. Across the path is a monument to a special group of San Mateo soldiers, the 442 Regimental Combat Team of Japanese-American soldiers of WW II.

Description of Memorial: San Mateo's Central Park is a jewel in an urban setting. There are playgrounds, picnic areas, and a rose-garden gazebo perfect for weddings. On a quiet, wooded side of this large park are three different veteran's memorials. I found this one while walking to the Japanese tea garden and 442 memorial nearby.
