This statue of a coal miner by Steve Shields stands on the corner of the Providence Main Street Park. Providence, KY has been and still has a long history with coal mining.
The city of Providence dedicated the Providence Main Street Park in 1990 with the help of many donors throughout the community to celebrate the city's 150th anniversary.
The poem, "Portrait of a Coal Miner" by John Rice is displayed at the feet of the statue.
