The Battle of Nancy was part of the Burgundian Wars. Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, besieged Nancy. René, Duke of Lorraine, arrived with forces to relieve the siege on January 5, 1477. Charles' outnumbered forces were defeated, and Charles himself fell in battle. His mutilated body was found days later.
This waymark is at the spot where his body was found; there is a plaque marking the site.
