The liriodendron tulipifera or tulip tree that towers over this mosaic was the first tulip tree accepted into Seattle's Heritage Tree program. This program is a joint venture between the City of Seattle and PlantAmnesty to protect special trees. The program started in 1996 and this tree was added in 2000. This tree was considered a "Best in Neighborhood" tree when it was added. The tulip tree does loose its leaves in the winter, although they are currently starting to turn yellow.

I can find no information on the artist of the mosaic that is featured. The sidewalk here was damaged by the tree roots, and the sidewalk was repoured to protect the tree. Extending beyond the mosaic on the sidewalk on the concrete are etching or stamped leaves. The street names are even artfully done in Mosaic style on the corners.

Be sure to post photos of the tree during different seasons. Especially when the tree is in bloom!

Parking is available along the street. There is no parking allowed on 16th, but is allowed on both sides of Aloha.
