Ghost Tree, featured in several surfing films, is one of the Big Wave spots along the Northern Central Coast of California. Waves can top 40 50 feet in height during the winter storms.
The pull off at Ghost Tree/Pascadero Point is rather small and can only accommodate a 1/2 dozen cars or so, and this area is bustling when the surfers hit the waves.
As a side note, personal water craft (e.g. Jetskis) were banned from the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary amidst concern over the noise and disruption to marine like in the area. This has put a significant damper on the surfing to this popular Tow-surf spot, but the surfing community has been working on putting in place a permit system that would allow surfing back in this area where the biggest waves are considered "homicidal" in nature, and the necessity of rescue craft for any fallen surfers before they hit the "bone yard" near shore.
There is a fee to drive onto Pebble Beach, and the popular 17 Mile Drive in which Ghost Tree area is located.
