To end Kentucky~Tennessee boundary dispute, Cox~Peebles survey began at Compromise, Ky., west of this point. Surveyors marked boundary eastward every 5 mi. to Cumberland mountains. The 1858-59 line, for the first time, verified border to inhabitants, as well as to county and state officials. In 1860, Ky. and Tenn. recognized it as official boundary between the two states.
