Chavez was jailed here from December 4 to December 24, 1970, for refusing to end a boycott. Ethel Kennedy and Coretta Scott King were among the many supporters who visited Chavez.

Recently there's been a battle with the county because they want to demolish the building. The case is still unresolved and the building still stands.
