This equestrian statue depicts George Washington (1732 - 1799)as Lt Gen in the Continental Army, and is located in the "Foggy Bottom" section of Washington, DC. The statue is bronze and is mounted on a sandstone base. It is located in the center of a traffic circle formed by the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue, New Hampshire Avenue, 23rd Street and K Street, a block north of George Washington University and about 100 yards north of the GWU Hospital. visit link) , The statue was commissioned in 1789 but not completed until 1860.
To reach from the east side of the base of the Washington Monument, walk north on 15th Street for about 350 yards to Constitution Ave. Turn left and walk west on Constitution for about 0.31 miles to 17th Street. Turn right and walk north on 17th Street for about 0.46 miles to Pennsylvania Ave. Turn half-left and walk northwest on Pennsylvania Ave for about 0.63 miles to the circle and the statue.
