The Iron Bridge Shelter is an enclosed camping shelter with a loft and a porch. Two camp chairs were inside the shelter making for a comfortable stay after a long day of hiking. There's a fire pit and a picnic table located outside. According to a sign on the shelter, it's available on a first come-first serve basis, but hikers are expected to share the space. No reservations are required. Available for a one night stay only. Hikers must keep food outside, and hanger pins are available on the porch. Shelter users are expected to clean up after themselves and pack out their trash, and leave a note in the trail journal inside the shelter.
From The Florida Trail by Sandra Friend:
Notice sunlight glinting off a roof in the forest? That's the Iron Bridge Shelter ahead, a work of art and the first of several similar shelters planned along this segment. A signpost points you down the blue-blaze trail to the shelter. In addition to fully sealed and screened walls (to let the breezes through while keeping the insects out), it has a nice front porch with rocking chairs, a loft for sleeping, and fire ring with benches nearby.
The rocking chairs mentioned above are no longer there, neither are there benches around the fire ring.
