Originally dedicated to the memories of the village’s Civil War soldiers, Monument Park in New London, Ohio is also home to a small but touching monument to the four local men who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam.

New London, Ohio is a small town in Huron County, Ohio, with a 2000 Census population of only 2696 citizens. South of the town library, in Monument Park, is a black marble memorial. It commemorates the four New Londoners who lost their lives in Vietnam, as well as those who served their country and returned home.
The front of the marker has an outline map of Vietnam next to the United States flag. The text engraved on the front of the marker reads:
IN HONOR OF
THOMAS GOPP, CPL USMC
GREGG HEIDRICH, PFC US ARMY
CLAUDE HOWARD, SCT USMC
LAWRENCE WALTON, LCPL USMC
WHO PROUDLY SERVED
LEST WE FORGET
A plaque on the back of the memorial reads ”This monument is dedicated in honor of all who served in Vietnam from the New London area.” I did not see information on the memorial regarding dedication date or sponsors of the memorial.
