This museum is operated by the Sabre Society of North Carolina. The Sabre Society has been dedicated to the preservation of aviation history for over 16 years, but is perhaps best known for organizing some of the best airshows in the Eastern United States.
On May 19th, 2007, the Hickory Aviation Museum officially opened to the public. That opening was the culmination of years of work completed by many people. In the first half of 2007, museum officers and city officials were able to reach an agreement that allowed work to begin on the new museum. The all-new museum is in the former Flight Service Station in the airport terminal, and it is an educational attraction that the city of Hickory can be proud of.
