The Monona Terrace web site (
visit link) has a great deal of information about Frank Lloyd Wright designing this building.
The building has a sweeping view of Lake Monona and is best viewed from the Lake itself (unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to do so.) When approaching the building from the northwest, its size is hidden as it appears you are coming onto a plaza and not the roof of a building.
It's interesting to note that although the exterior of the building followed Wright's design, the overall scope of the project did not. Wright's original plan included auditorium, rail depot, marina, courthouse and city hall. I wonder what the result would have been had they stayed with that scope.
