These eight aluminum sculptures grace the Ballard Bridge and have designs that represent aspects of the history of Ballard as well as life in Ballard. These sculptures were designed by Tom Askman and Lea Anne Lake. They were originally installed in 2003 and awarded "Best Public Sculpture" in 2003 by Seattle Magazine.
Sadly a large windstorm in February 2006 damaged the anchoring to the sculptures and they were removed and sat in storage. Just recently on September 16 and 17, 2008, the sculptures were reinstalled.
The Ballard bridge is not the most pedestrian or bike friendly bridge, so viewing them from the side streets next to the bridge may be your best option. Of course if you pick the heavy traffic times to drive across, you should have a long time to look at them! Given coords are for the start of the bridge, but the sculptures are along the sides for a short distance. Parking can be found on the side streets.
