East Sidney Dam was built in 1950 by the Army Corps of Engineers in response to devastating floods downstream in Binghamton, NY. The lake behind the dam is rather small most of the time to reserve room for floods. The lake is open to recreation activities and there is a park for picnicking, etc.
In 2006 heavy flooding occurred that forced water over the spillway for the first time in the dam's 56-year history.
