Medicine Creek Dam, which forms Harry Strunk Lake, is one of a series of Bureau of Reclamation dams in western Nebraska. All provide irrigation, flood control and recreational use.
The lake at this dam, surrounded by rolling hills and bordered by earth cliff is one of the most scenic. Most of the lake shore is within Medicine Creek State Recreation area. Campgrounds and picnic areas are set in groves of large trees. The lake is very popular for fishing and camping. The campground at Shady Bay provides RV hookups and there are several other campgrounds with basic facilities.
