The Creve Couer water tower prominently stands in the city of Creve Couer. On the side of the tank is the city name as well as two heads in silhouette. One is of a Native American. The other is a Frenchman.
Rene-Robert-Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, led an expedition along the Illinois River and made it to the Gulf of Mexico. His expedition stopped in the area and built a fort to stay from November to March of 1678.
