Lying within 20 acres of land with superb views across the bay this hotel stands out with its excellent architecture. There is an advertised footpath welcoming you to walk through the grounds from the coastal path to the road.

John Newman and Nikolaus Pevsner describe the house in 'The Buildings of England - Dorset': The Manor House was built in 1825 as a 'marine villa' for the Rt Hon. George Bankes. There are many additions on the building creating a disorganised medley including many gablets. This was Bankes retirement pastime - adding bits to his house.
