The Mackinac Disaster
August 18th, 1925
Dedicated to the memory of the 55
whose lives were lost
"Husbands, wives and children
torn from each other's side
by that hissing, blinding, burning steam"
Google does not give much information on this disaster other than to say that it was an explosion of a boiler on the steamship Mackinac. 150 people were burned and 55 people died as a result of this explosion in Newport harbor.
