A Peace Pole that has been placed in Peace Park.
Dr. Floyd Schmoe, winner of the Hiroshima Peace Prize in 1998, used his $5,000 to create Peace Park. The community cleared the site of lots of junk, including dead cars, and Peace Park was born.
Peace Park is the site of the Peace Pole, and a full size statue of Sadako Sasaki. Sadako Saski was a child survivor of the bombing of Hiroshima. She eventually died of leukemia while still young, but her hopeful attitude through death has inspired whole nations. There are usually many paper cranes at her statue, as well as on the peace pole.
