Originally standing on Wacker Drive downtown, the restored Children's Fountain was dedicated by Mayor Jane M. Byrne on October 23, 1982, to "all children in Chicago who will take from our past to better our future." According to the (out-of-date) link below:
"The fountain is constructed of over 250 individual cast pieces that were then welded and bolted together in order to constrcut the three tiered fountain. The lower pool of the fountain is 12' 6" in diameter that sits on a granite base. The entire weight of the cast iron fountain is 3500 lbs. and is made of three major assemblies."
These pieces include three cranes and several frolicking infants.
