One of the world's most beautiful and iconic bridges is particularly lovely when viewed from the open waters of San Francisco Bay.

The north end of the Golden Gate bridge is anchored on the Marin Headlands. It spans a deep strait which is often dangerous to enter by boat, due to strong swift tides and lack of suitable landing spots. Depending on the season, even windsurfers and dinghies may enjoy a trip near the bridge, but only with appropriate awareness of the passing time and changing currents. Our personal photo of the headlands and bridge was taken from an 18-foot sailboat after we sailed under the bridge (and then back) one favorable afternoon.
