In the heart of the Village is a monument that commemorates the 150th anniversary of Meadowvale achieving village status in 1836.
The capsule was placed here on June 21st 1986. It was supposed to be opened in June 2036 to commemorate 200 years. It was opened after 20 years when someone got the hunch it wasn't going to last 50 years.
The first time capsule buried here was essentially a geocache type container, and like most plexiglass / tupperware type containers this one formed a hole in it and filled with water.
The capsule had aerial photographs and already the area showed major changes - what was once an isolated village surrounded by fields (in 1986) was now completely surrounded by suburban sprawl.
At the time, plans were made to replenish the capsule with updated photos and re-bury it. I can only presume that they finished as the rock is back here with the plaque on it.
