Can't tell you exactly when it opened, only that it had been here for quite some time by the time I arrived in town in 1971. Back then it was Union Carbide, and people referred to it as "the Carbon."
Today, this is the company's only plant manufacturing lithium ion batteries. Only the admin building is visible from the highway; the actual production areas are hidden from view.
In November, 2012, the company announced that it would be closing this plant by the end of 2013, putting 165 people out of work.
Product manufactured here: Energizer batteries
Address: Swanton Road St. Albans, VT US 05478
