On September 11, 2002, "In honor of the individuals who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks against the United States that occurred on September 11, 2001", the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners dedicated a permanent display on the Courthouse square.
I visited the Lowndes County Courthouse on September 12, 2008, and discovered that the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners had laid a wreath in front of the September 11 memorial the day before on the anniversary this tragic event.
