The information sheet reads:
"The Children's Garden was created with the needs of children in mind. As we created the garden we asked ourselves what kids really do when they play outside when adults let them do what they want to do? What outdoor elements are inherently captivating to children? The Children's Garden is a place where kids can run, play, climb, and freely experience natural materials. Of course, this is a miniature of what a big children's garden could be like. There are nine elements of how children thrive and play in the outdoors. The first is water. The small pond with its fountain allows the kids to feel, see, and hear the beauty of water. Creatures are also in the pond. Children love the tadpoles along with the big frogs and toads that also visit the pond area. Refuge can be taken in the bean teepee. As the summer progresses the teepee offers a cool hiding place for the kids. Dirt can be found in the sandbox and edges of the vegetable gardens. Kids love to get down and dirty with sand and dirt. Heights for kids, is obtained by the short walk across the bridge. Make-believe is up to the kids with the serpent winding its way through the garden. Kids also see the progress of growing plants and vegetables. They can see that in order for the plants to survive, someone has to nurture these plants. Learning is the last element. As with all the gardens in the zoo, they are created with an educational focus. Plants are labeled and educational signs are in many places in the zoo"
