This monument was erected to honor the heroes of the Civil War by the citizens of Marion, Iowa and the vicinity. It was dedicated on October 15, 1914, and erected by the Robert Mitchell post No. 206 G.A.R. and the Women's Relief Corps No. 128. This monument honors all heroes who fought in the American Civil War, 1861-1865. It is at the north end of the city park, and faces north. There is a short quote from the Gettysburg Address by President Lincoln on the south side of the monument.
